After installing Inthread, you need to enable the keyboard extension in iOS Settings:

• Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards
• Tap Add New Keyboard and select Inthread
• Enable Full Access so Inthread can communicate with AI providers
• In iMessage, tap and hold the 🌐 globe icon on your keyboard to switch to Inthread

Full Access is required for keyboard extensions that need to connect to the internet — which Inthread must do to reach AI providers.

Enabling Full Access does not mean Inthread can read your other keyboard input (like passwords). Inthread only processes the specific prompts you explicitly send through its interface. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

We cannot log keystrokes, read your iMessage history, or access any content outside the Inthread panel. Full Access is a technical requirement by Apple, not a privacy risk with Inthread.

Tap the 🔑 API Keys button in the Inthread panel header (visible when the keyboard is open in iMessage). You can add keys for any supported provider:

• Anthropic (Claude) — get your key at console.anthropic.com
• OpenAI (GPT) — get your key at platform.openai.com/api-keys
• Google (Gemini) — get your key at aistudio.google.com
• xAI (Grok) — get your key at console.x.ai

Your API keys are stored on your device and used only to call the AI provider you choose — by default they are not sent to Inthread's servers. If you turn on encrypted sync, your keys are encrypted on your device with a passphrase only you know (AES-256-GCM) before syncing, so Inthread can't read them.

The Inthread Apple Watch app appears in your Watch's app list after installing Inthread on your iPhone. To use it:

• Open the Inthread app on your Watch
• Select your preferred AI model using the model picker
• Use Keyboard for text input or Dictate for voice input
• The AI response appears on your Watch screen
• Tap Send to send it, or use Handoff to continue editing on your iPhone

Apple Watch requires watchOS 7 or later. Series 4 and later are supported.

If an AI model isn't responding, check the following:

• Internet connection — Inthread requires an active internet connection to reach AI providers.
• API key validity — if using BYOK, verify your API key is valid, has sufficient credits, and hasn't been revoked.
• Provider status — the AI provider may be experiencing downtime. Check the provider status links below.
• Full Access — ensure Full Access is enabled for Inthread in Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Inthread.

No. Inthread operates as a keyboard extension, which means it only sees what you explicitly type or paste into its input field. It has no access to your iMessage history, contacts, or ongoing conversations.

Subscriptions are managed by Apple and must be cancelled through your iPhone Settings. We cannot cancel subscriptions via email.

• Open Settings on your iPhone
• Tap your name → Subscriptions
• Find Inthread and tap Cancel Subscription

Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period. After cancellation, you retain Pro access until the end of your current paid period.
